Koobface On Facebook..?
Attention on new visitors: those 5000 “friends” you has on Facebook? They could actually be friends. In fact, try some of them are scammers to infect your computer with new virus dubbed “Koobface.
Koobface, which has wheels on MySpace, now worming its way through Facebook. Virus Koobface using Facebook’s private messages to infect computers via a shared video.
Unsuspecting users will see a video link (shared infected friend) with the message: “You look just gorgeous in this new film.” Click on the link will take you to external site where you said that you need to download the Flash update, which actually is a virus file. When the virus is installed, it will try to snatch sensitive data from your computer, such as credit card numbers.
In a way, a very old virus, but it seems like mass-mail worms, which used to infect Usenet and e-mail addresses. But it seems to be an effective tactic in the social network where private messages from friends more credible than traditional e-mail that even the most novice Internet users lost confidence.
With around 120 million users, Facebook is not only a potentially lucrative target, but also in general, are more naive, less internet-savvy users for virus programmers to barter.
McAfee Virus Watchdog blog reports that Facebook is ready Koobface attack, and already working on removing spam links from your system. But with dozens Koobface variants known to exist, McAfee warns that “the situation will probably get worse before it gets better.”
Until then the best way to avoid Koobface followed the tried and true rule of Internet safety: Never open unexpected e-mails, videos or other links, even if they are from someone you know.
